I already look forward to getting the band back together for Tiki Caliente 6. I just wonder how we can out do this years mug.
Thanks John and Doug.

I had three highlights this year that made me feel cooler then I should.

  1. Sammy Velvet handing his camera to Shag to take a picture of him and I.
  2. People asking for me to sign the tiki caliente 5 bowl along with Doug Horne and John Mulder.
  3. Having the Martini Kings with Sonny Moon is suites and then Jason Lee being all rocked out joining them for THUNDERBALL, and being pissed I didn't think of it.

As if this year's creation wasn't awesome enough?

Sonny got off to a good start doing the Two-Step Shuffle.

Crazy Al countered with a Rumba and Cha-Cha.

Chris took a conservative approach with a classical Waltz.

Sonny scored extra points with his debonair wardrobe and cool Palm Springs Rat Pack vibe.

To make up ground, Crazy Al did the Charleston and strutted his patented "Crazy Kicks" moves
that scored high with judges to take a commanding lead.

Chris and his partner El Jefe next danced an intimate Tango.

Seeing that he was falling far behind in points Chris panicked and attempted the
almost impossible "Flying Bonomo" move.

Unfortunately, Chris had not performed the move in over 15 years and could not
pull it off successfully. To Chris's defense, El Jefe was a good 70 pounds
heavier than his female partner of years prior when he invented the move.

The other two contestants quickly came to help out.

Hopefully, El Jefe will have a speedy recovery and be released from the hospital soon.

THE WINNER

With a move that is illegal in several southern states, Sonny Moon successfully was able
to execute the "Sinatra Sandwich" which brought the crowd to its feet.

Without a doubt the BEST tiki event mug ever!!!!!

Thank you Rory, Doug Horne, & John Mulder.

Love the way this pretty ladies' dress looked with my art.

Thanks Rory and Everyone else for the great weekend!

RumDog, that was HILARIOUS!!!!!

What happened to the rule: "What happens in Palm Springs, really, really stays in Palm Springs"?

After seeing all these great photos it makes me believe it's going to be hard to kill the momentum for next years growth.

But, we will.
Next year we will not exceed 550 people. In the past I stated 500 but i believe we can handle another 50 without it being a stretch and the income of those extra 50 can help to have security extended by size and by hours.

If this looks like a good time and you want to be part of it,then pull the trigger early next year.

Thanks for the nice words everyone and I hope you believe you got your moneys worth.

Apparently I almost completely failed to take photos at Tiki Caliente this year, so I only have a few to share (and half are iPhone shots). I'll chalk it up to having a good time as well as being busy. Most of what I have is of the bands on stage. Thanks again to all the performers at Tiki Caliente 5!

JOHN-O vs. Technology...

JOHN-O loses !! :( (That's why I look so sad.)

Even at Surf Music events...

I'm with ya, buddy!

I will not condone this scourge on society!

Caliente Tropics

Polar Opposite:

The Left side is the cool hip Sonny Moon looking all stylish with a women who can't let him go.

The Right side, Spring Break Cancun 1990.

Tiki Caliente, bringing you both sided of the spectrum.

Kudos on the photos Tom. The many individual moments you've captured are so great.

And thanks to everyone that has posted photos to the thread here. I love reliving what I experienced and seeing what I missed.
