Unfortunately due to the fact that we just had Fong Fest, it was decided to pass on the 3rd this month. Be sure to stop in anyway if you can, great food, great drinks and great ambiance.

Aloha & Howdy Ya'll!

This month featuring from up Milwaukee way, Crazy Rocket Fuel...

..."If cornering the market on being an all woman, hyper-awesome, old school, sawdust on the floor Rockabilly band were illegal, the Milwaukee quartet, Crazy Rocket Fuel would most definitely be Taycheedah bound. All things considered, hearing their debut album Volume 1 and seeing these beautiful songstresses sing the tunes live are two totally different animals. Lead singer and guitarist Kari Bloom is sultry in every single way. From her platinum blond hair to her deep red lips, she can melt a crowd with surgeon-like precision. Backed by songwriter, singer and lead guitarist Ginny Wiskowski, Laura Proeber on the stand-up bass, and Debbie Bricault tanning the skins, CRF is more than just combustible, they are molten hot magma!" ~ Peter Coffinail

It's also Sweetest Day so bring your honey out for a FUN filled evening! As usual the Chef will be running specials that night too, so come on out enjoy some fabulous eats, a tasty tropical libation or 3, and check out Crazy Rocket Fuel as the gals tear it up at the Chef!

The Chef is proud to announce The Amazing Heeby Jeebies appearing at this Month's "Evening in Shangri-La" Saturday 6/15...

...AMAZING HEEBY JEEBIES was born in the back seat of a '63 Caddy tearing down Highway 41. Amazing Ary and Earl "Wolfdaddy" knew they had created something that could be a sinners delight. Neighbors curiosity grew hearing the two bang out what became the foundation of AMAZING HEEBY JEEBIES.

Chicago Artist Ary started painting at a young age..but visual art was just not enough. When she turned 21, she became a regular fixture lurking in the shadows of the hippest live music shows mingling with international party girls, hep cats & kittens...now cutting her teeth as a musician/songwriter/performer, taking souls & rockin' bones on stage for the first time...raawwwr! This petite bad girl packs a powerful vocal punch like nobody's business. Her live performances show her provocative but sweet style, invoking artists from past and present, from blues to punk, hell raisin' rock n roll with a twist and shake of vintage kitsch.

Earl "Wolfdaddy" Carter is also one of the two original members of The Riptones, and before that he was in numerous other insane notable local bands (Deacons, Deke Rivers, Rebel Rousers, The Buzzerds, and the late and great Elvis impersonator Tom Green). Slappin' & howlin' in league with the hellhounds from the blazin' fires of nitro moonshine madness, Wolfdaddy will make you scream!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch...

Here's a great way to warm up on Saturday night January 18th: @ the first "Evening in Shangri-La" of 2014 featuring the melodic sound of The Astronauts Space Age Lounge Combo. The boys will get you movin' and keep ya'll warm on a cold winters night...

For those of you that are unfamiliar with their sound here's a little bio info...
The Astronauts are comprised of veteran musicians from the vast array of Chicago-area talent. The primary focus of the band involves a sonic emphasis that is rooted in late 1950s/early 1960s American pop culture (think of a Maynard G. Krebs/George Jetson hybrid, with just a touch of nasty R & B). However, to say that The Astronauts are a self-consciously hip "retro" act would be misleading. Although the group demonstrates a keen and reverent ear for the mature sounds of years past (the kind of stuff often found on discounted garage sale records), the freshness of bandleader Jon Kostal's postmodern arrangements, coupled with the high-energy excitement generated by the group's soloists, is uniquely suitable for the most contemporary dancing and listening tastes. Put simply, this is not your father's lounge band.

The drink special for Saturday 1/18 is a Bird of Paradise served in Collector Mug for $18.00, plus the usual (huge) selection of Tropical Drinks and Asian Fusion Cuisine to help everyone through the night. My husband and I made a quick roadtrip Tiki Tour of Chicago last weekend and we made a stop at Chef Shangri-La!
We loved it! It is about a 6 hour drive from Cleveland (not bad considering we logged over 1,000 to go to Mai Kai!).
We hope to make it out to at least one of your special events in the future. The lady at the gift shop stand told us about Fong Fest: sounds wonderful!
Keep up the good work and hopefully we'll see you soon!

This month's "Evening in ShangriLa" 3rd Saturday event 5/17 brings the return of The Butterfields to the Chef...

...in case you haven't checked the boys out before, here's a little bit of their bio...

The Butterfields are a trio of seasoned musicians from the Chicago area. Their love for surf, rockabilly and 60s era rock and roll radiates through their song selections and interpretations of them. Some of these tunes are classics and familiar to anyone's ear while others are more obscure. Any of these songs remind the listener of how great music was - back in its heydey. They refer to themselves as a Surfabilly Psychedelic rock band that produces hallucinations and apparent expansion of consciousness.

The drink special for Saturday 5/17 is any drink in a collector Hula Girl mug for $18.00 , plus the usual (huge) selection of tropical drinks and asian fusion cuisine to help everyone through the night. What better way to spend a spring evening than with the psychedelic sounds of The Butterfields and the tropical ambiance of Chef Shangri-La?
