I'll be showing 5 paintings at the Harold Golen gallery's Fine Art Tiki exhibit at the Hukilau.... and the wife and i decided last minute that we're going! it'll be so nifty to meet all you East coast Ohana! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Worked a bit on the journey AND an abstract piece..but haven't photogged yet... But i did finish these! 'Hawaiian Warrior" a study of an old portrait...can somebody help me identify this regal subject? and a fun little "Jungle Dance" that's all I'm good for today! Chow mein!

( getting my monthly, INSANE , deep tissue, 2 hr, knot rub out by Terrill the Wonder Hands aka MAhalo Massage, NOT TY-RELL Big Toe!!!!!!!) He's got some over the top art I stare at. I'm guessing he's gonna "be sold out" soon ( according to some of you) hopefully!!!. Awesome stuff to gaze, daze and drewell at!!! ( while acting out the Steve Martin and Bill Murray scene with Terrill, from that movie with the giant human eating flower..... it hurst sooo bad/good but keeps me going for the next build!) The background gave me the feel of a sun shower well, a Midwestern sun shower as I've never been to the Islands.... But bigToe wrote and said that's exactly how one feels on the Islands... YAY! Well, besides the previous drawings, i got to work on the Journey-2nd canvas this week.... Here's what i got so far.... just a few changes from the big ink study... had to adapt it to the square format..... changed his helmet and the sun face and gave him some hair and feathers.... i like how it's Polynesian,but also alludes to the classical roman archetype of a warrior how it kind of crosses cultures to reach an essence... here's a close-up of his face.... I'm doing this canvas in acrylic and MAY or MAY NOT use paintpen with it.... Here's the prow so far...layering and layering colors and i have to be careful i don't cover up the boatsman in the background too much! here's the paddle attached to the boat...just started on this area so you can get a feel of the beginning layers.... and the transparency... Humorous intermission.... Whilst watching Bamboo Ben's shop this weekend i was honored by many esteemed visitors.... two of them....not so esteemed...but they brought gifts! GROG brought a Pixie stick Squid brought a TWIX bar (with JAVA!) and this beautiful piece... LOVE! At first i thought that this would lead to an uncomfortable situation until Dave smiled and turned the object and revealed..... a Hawaiian Warrior! Ready to be painted up and brought to life! Genius! That Boy has an EYE for this stuff! i loves my Squid! Ernie too! i guess(that pixie Stick amped me out!) end of Humorous intermission.... Back in march i started this porthole piece worked a little bit on it in March... at the Chop.... then dropped it for awhile... when the mModern came up i didn't like the porthole piece so i did those 3 from scratch and the porthole piece sat lonely in the studio/garage becoming a home for black widows.... Until this weekend! YAY! Decided to revive this guy and work on him while minding Ben's store..... and now i like it again! not sure if I'm gonna hang it square or as a diamond.... Here's some details of the figures so far... I'm thinking the name will be like "mandala of the plumeria" or "Guardians of the Plumeria" or sumptin like thet! Corner guy! Center guy! He looks good right side up and upside down! and the middle part I've just started... was gonna put a landscape in there but decided to go hippy-trippy on it! Plus ,that ways you can hang it a number of ways! YAY! Well, that's all i got......except the yawns..got lots of those! G'night dear family!

And the crack clown is from METALOCALYPSE a ridiculous metal show...he's redonkulous. ANYWAY... I love the Journey piece so far! I like that you opt to give him flowing locks :lol: The changes you did for the sun are a lot better! :) And yaaay the Mandala is gettin done! Like it should be painted on the ceiling of the Enchanted Tiki Room. And I mean that in a good way - Disney is often my high water mark for craftsman ship when it comes to art.

"Moon Rider" a little bright and happy-but hey! PNG inspired work can be mysterious and Happy....i guess.... "Outside the Village" this one mixes and matches a bunch of styles and locales... sort of a Polynesian Rainbow coalition or sumthin! "Spaceship of the Polynesian Exploration PARTY" wplugger mentioned that ol' DVA gallery Flounder bisque rocket i painted... so i figgered i'd draw a semi-new version...400000 more miles per gallon! "the Lone Hut" "Salutation" A little too bright for my tastes,but someone may smile at it... I may tint over it with a sepia..... More shields! "War Dance" and two shield abstracts! "four shields" and "three shields" duh... also went to the library with the stepkid and got the MOTHERLODE! Thor Heyerdahl's "the Art of Easter Island" Holy Fudge! Go get it NOW! there is soooooooooooooo much art your head will spin! Did a bunch of ink sketchbook drawing studies from it... here they is! and lotsa front/side/back views! tons of life and personality! Decided to draw a scenario where ALL of them arrive at the island before the Polynesians... or Peruvians....or Lemurians......or....... GO BUY THAT BOOK! It's a BIG'UN! so much weird anthropomormism (is that a word?)and mystery! and what's the deal with the Janus head stuff? a lotta links with the Moche Peru culture! There's a lot of suspect "artifacts" in it, but most of em are pretty cool nonetheless - I like tourist pieces just as much as the old stuff. A handful of those pieces (the real deal) are just over the hill in Christchurch - but unfortunately not on display these days...

Well, kids-flying out in a few hours to hit hukilau... like i said, I'm bringing a folder full of drawings to share and barter with y'all as well as a couple of prints and coloring books.... buy me a few drinks/trade some art for art/etc..... Of course you are a bit WAY over the top which makes you the Best at what you do. Mrs BenZart and I really enjoyed our time with you and all your art and it is strange how that Maori piece of yours just followed me home, wouldn't take No for an answer. Subject: GUARDIANS OF THE PLUMERIA Status: UPDATE PHOTOS OBTAINED AND DOWNLOADED..... ENGAGE..... here's some progress from a few little pockets of time this week.... was gonna do the Journey/Warrior/Vigor piece BECAUSE of the heat and how that piece was all about heat...BUT it was too HOT! made the brain boil....decided to work on the mandala not much deep thought involved-more technical/lighting stuff.... I've been showing y'all this piece,but forgot to tell ya.... I'll be hanging it on the diagonal! Also, the more it gets finished-the more Faces are slowly revealed... FREAKOUT! Take the middle area for instance.... FREAKOUT! quit lookin at me! Reminds me of this Lovecraft story about a guy whose paintings of landscapes had all these EYES and he,of course, went mad or something so the friend or the doctor visited that landscape AND AS HE LOOKED,he began to SEE all the EYES! Blinking and staring at him AND HE GOES MAD too! FREAKOUT! Here's some more... And here's the best part! This piece is so funny! I mean, check out the orongos.... first off, i made them wingless-like the Moas then threw these Hawaiian Feather helmets on them... what's THAT all about? FREAKOUT! :lol: Speaking of which,check out how their eyes help to form more faces! FREAKOUT! Do ya see it? Do ya see it? Huh? HUh? :lol: FREAKOUT! Also added tongues to the corner fellows...
