Yes, the music isn't my bag.

Perhaps my reason for disliking Jimmy Buffet is childish, especially since it has nothing to do with tiki. My beef with the man is personal because of his unsavory behavior regarding the original theatrical/musical production of "Don't Stop the Carnival" here in Florida. Parrotheads, please don't kill me. This is not an attack toward you. Its just an opinion.

Long story short, JB the business man is a very different person than his created alter ego of the carefree beach-bum. In fact, JB the business man demonstrated to not be very human at all in this instance (aka JERK). Close friends of mine worked with Mr. Buffet first hand and still have nothing nice to say about the man. Its a long story of unnecessary firings, rehirings and all the hell that goes with mounting a new musical. That alone involves a potential explanation of the conflicts within a completely different subculture, which I will bypass. From all I've heard, the already difficult process was made much worse by JB's ego and attitude about the project and the people involved.

Perhaps this is not a surprise to some. If a judgement/opinion should be ideally based on a person's actions than the person alone, then JB's actions merited a poor score on this one.

Of course, this is subjective and based on the opinions of those on the receiving end. I do not know of many people who would look upon their aggressors fondly.

A very personal 2 cents.
