Woodtiki 1 gallon is correct. The mug isn't going to hold that much. First I've made it with thick walls. That takes 2 hours of the slip sitting in the mold and then it shrinks as it dries and then it shrinks as it bisque fires. Even still it is a huge mug.

Tyber Tiki he is looking forward to the day I retire and he can stop lifting these molds. I sure don't want to stop making tiki art. He reminds me that painting is much lighter in weight.

TikiHula thank you so much. This is a time demanding design but the outcome makes it worth it to me.

hang10tiki we used to go out dancing when the music was 60's. Now Dan runs from most music. You can see here that his beard has started.

=======================================

Progress Report for the Sacramento Crawl mug for October 2nd, 3rd and 4th, 2015.

The date is 2/14/15

It's time to open the mold. My fingers were crossed that no chunks would break off of the mold. Tiki Central is my "Cloud" for having photos elsewhere for safety. All my best photos are on this thread and finished works on Gallery.

Straps are off and one mold piece at a time is removed. So far so good.

Two.

Three.

Four.

Lifting this mug is going to be hard. I let it sit and dry for an hour before risking it.

After I get smarter I will cut the top off before lifting. That way I don't have to let it sit.

I am so happy, it is looking good and ready to be cleaned and fine tuned.

I set up the nook in the house as a cleaning station. At the same time I have started the Wish List #5. My days are busy.

I cut off the top and

cleaned it up.

I studied the mold line. There were problems with the mold.

The bird was mushed and the mold where foliage was formed had disintegrated.

I was faced with re-carving all these areas so I got to work. I even re-carved all the vertical lines.

Now I cleaned it up with water.

One mold line down, four to go.

#2.

Cleaned up and re-carved.

After the water sanding.

#3

Cleaned up and re-carved.

#4

Cleaned up and re-carved.

Now I think I'm done and enjoying the mug.

Then I remembered the bottom. I had to wait until the next day so the side were firm.

Now one mug is done. The first one took just over 2 hours to clean up and re-carve.

Keeping on top of the Crawl mugs and Wish List. 2/18/15 I have four mugs cast, one cleaned and you can see what I've done with the Wish List.

A few days later I lined up some mugs so I could look at all the sides.

Here are the 6 Sacramento (Cap City) Crawl mug. The newest will shrink when fired.

This one is the hardest I've made so far. I also hope everyone will think it is the best.

Cheers, Wendy
