Bunch of old fogeys! :wink: Those photos sure show the "establishment" at the time - proving again how Tiki was the playground of the older generation.

That great article still does not explain the WHY of the decor of this weirdest of all the Beachcombers. I think it had to do with the concurrent "Eleganza" style at the time. As Miss Maestas pointed out: People got all ritzy and donned their minks for an elegant evening out, and the Sahara Beachcomber's environment mirrored that. It was THE "Vegas look" - so aptly portrayed in Martin Scorcese's "Casino":

This glitzy place was as far removed from the original hobo/hippie beachcomber character as one can image! :)
