I'm tired of the lie that organic food is better for the environment. If you will recall, this all started about 10 years ago as Hollywood elitism. And it continues as such today - they even have special colored plastic bags prominently marked ORGANIC for you to put your organic produce in. That way you can show off to the other people in the checkout line ~ "Look at me, I'm better than you because I pay way too much for organic foods. And I sleep better at night because marketing has convinced me that I am doing a good thing."

Part of the problem is that when you pay premium price for food, you want it to be perfect without bugholes and blemishes. So they cut off and discard much of the food. That way we can protect the environment for the children and grandchildren of people in this world who will starve to death before they are old enough to reproduce.

Here's a dirty little secret about organic farming. During the summer in the farming community where I live, they cover the fields with miles of petroleum-produced plastic to "naturally cook" the bugs and weeds. In the fall, they pull off the plastic and plant your organic greens. What do you think happens to all those truckloads of discarded plastic? Straight to the landfill.

This pile of plastic is about 20 feet wide, 200 feet long and 4 feet deep. It was used to cover 100 acres of organic cropland

Another organic farming technique is to create a non-organic buffer around your organic field. Then poison the bejesus out of the buffer so that nothing can survive the trip across the buffer to your precious organic $6 a pound heirloom kale. Makes sense to me!
