The first National Doughnut Day was in 1938 created by the Salvation Army. The day was to honor and remember the women who past out doughnuts to the troops in the field in WWI. They also pulled doughnut wagons into battle zones after the area was secure for the boys in WWII. I bet a pretty gal and a doughnut help take the edge off for those boys.
