As there is still no clarity about WHO invented the first Tiki mug, and WHEN, one thing becomes apparent when looking at dates and Tiki mug illustrations in vintage cocktail menus: The Trader Vic Tiki bowl was there before any other restaurants began to serve their libations in Tiki mugs. Technically it is not a Tiki mug, but the step from the bowl to the mug was the next logical one.
