What we have here again is the basic difference between appreciating Tiki style as an ART FORM and appreciating Tiki as a PARTY LIFESTYLE. As the Tiki revival turns older than ten years, the original sources for it are more and more forgotten, and the latter is beginning to take over the former. It's a matter of perspective of what you see and seek in Tiki:

If you CARE for the art form, you will delve into it deeply, and endeavor to keep it special, perpetuating its unique features in both traditional and innovative ways. Caring also means seeking to maintain a certain level of quality in what you care for. That certainly does NOT EXCLUDE having a good time with it all and partying and drinking, it just means doing all that in a more mindful manner.

If it's all one big beach party to you, there are all kind of fun genres you can throw it together with, then splash some bright colors on it for good measure, and, as the saying goes, "It's all good!" :)

It is sort of the difference between a 1934 ZOMBIE and a SEX ON THE BEACH.

It's everybody's personal choice, I say. This site however, as John-O pointed out, has certain parameters that aim at keeping a certain level of quality in its content. Mindless Tiki stuff like that Party City Tiki is undermining that level of quality.
