Also... I think LA (like any other place) has equal parts beauty and nastiness, sometimes only a block away from each other. El Segundo is nice, but (in my mind) the best part of that place is the purple orchid, you need to come to 'pedro, my friend...

I agree....El Segundo is a great little town, but there something about that thing that looks like a nuclear power plant glowing right in your backyard, and spouting off smoke all night that is a little disconcerting.

My list of top places I'd like to live in the LA / OC area....

  1. Venice/Marina Del Rey (not near the scummy Venice Beachwalk) - Cow's End for breakfast and Coffee every morn

  2. Riviera Village in Redondo beach : Between the Redondo Pier and Palos Verdes Peninsula (Ravenne lives there now and I'm horribly jealous)

  3. Sunset Beach / Huntington Harbor : Don the Beachcomber adjacent :)

  4. Belmont Shores/Peninsula in Long Beach

  5. Huntington Beach Proper - if not for the rather large brotard contingent, this would be higher on the list

6 . Manhattan / Hermosa Beach - a little crowded, and the crowd is not my kinda peeps, but I love the place.

  1. Seal beach - A little too "retirement" paced, but I love it and they have a really good Pizza joint there.

  2. Playa Del Rey - A little secluded and close to the airport, but nice. If the Amazing Polynesian Village Apartments were still there, this might be higher on the list as well.

I need to check out San Pedro...I've never really been to that part of it...it looks cool.
