That is were the confusion lies:

The terms Tiki Culture, Tiki Style, and "This and that is TIKI (...or not)" were invented for, and hence are names for, AMERICAN mid-century Tiki style, and its baby, American Tiki Revival art.

Oceanic originals are Oceanic art.

Polynesian originals are Polynesian art.

Original, old Tikis are Tikis, Ki'i, Ti'i, Moai, or more specifically Ku, Tangaroa, Lono and so on. They are not "Tiki Style" or "Tiki Culture" --saying that would be a Haole insult.

Original Tikis are good and fine: beautiful, strong native art. But so are the works of many other indigenous cultures. This site (and Tiki Style) is about the resulting art forms these originals inspired, not PRIMARILY the originals themselves.
