I would visit that beach at night (still prefer my beaches cool/temporate, deserted, pristine -- ahh, the beaches of Sonoma CO.)

Melintur,

Let me guess, you don't actually go into the water do you?

Oh, heavens, no. Heheh. Maybe to my ankles. I'm only beginning to enjoy swimming in the Ocean. But it's the population density that I really like.

My favourite thing to do at the beaches in SoCal was to gather up a bunch of the Cadre and get a Fire Ring (search for a fire ring and hope there will be one left) to have a fire on the beach at night, cook on it, relax, watch the moonlight reflect on the waves... ahhh

When We moved to NoCal, I called up the Sonoma Parks Assn. to inquire about Fire rings:

Me: Hello. Which beaches have fire rings?
Parks rep: Sir, No beaches have fire rings.
Me: So fires are not allowed?
Parks rep: No sir, just make your fire on the beach and when you are done, please do not cover it.
Me: Um, just make a fire ON THE BEACH?
Parks rep: yes, Just do not cover it to extinguish because someone may walk over...
Me: Um, ON THE BEACH?!

So to my suprise, we had our first fire straight on the beach, no fire rings, no rush to stake territory, no worries.

One night we were enjoying a fine Local Micro-brew and roasting brats over the fire when a Parks rep comes up:

Parks Rep: Um, are you guys local?
Us: Yes, we are from Petaluma.
Parks Rep: Well, the beach is closing at 10:00, but just be sure not to cover your fire, you can stay as long as you want. Oh! and I see you have glass. That is not allowed on the beach, but since you are local please remember to take it with you when you leave.
Us: Ok, thanks!

Ahhh. They joys of low population density - plenty of resources to go around.
