From someone who literally cannot remember a name until I've heard it five times, meeting TCers at these events is really not a problem.

In fact, its kind of fun to walk up to people in Hawaiian attire, start talking with them and then ask, are you on TC ?. It's kind of like a Christmas gift. You never know who you're going to run into. Maybe its an interesting person who's not on TC. Could be that artist who's work you love but didn't know the face, or another TCer that you've talked with online. And because we all have TC names, it's pretty common to have to ask someone's name again and again, and again, until you remember. Add to that "The cocktail factor", and it's all a lighthearted fun way to meet people.

We went to Hukilau and didn't know a sole except for the CA contingency. By the end of the weekend, we knew many of the non-left coast Tiki Ohana (and a few tourists) just by walking up and talking to people in vintage hawaiian attire. I completely understand the desire to have the comfort of seeing who someone is before talking to them. But I think that kind of makes it too formal, especially when we get to know eachother after attending several events anyway. Just my personal thoughts. :)

Easy ways to spot TCers:
*Groups of people in Hawaiian vintage shirts hanging out together, esp. at the vintage bar.
*People laughing, having traditional cocktails, and talking in depth about something Tiki.
*People in costume appropriate to the theme of TO.
*Generally, look for the crazy group having the most fun in the room and it's probably TC.

Really, you can spot TCers a mile away and you won't be tested on remembering the names. :)
