But the first time he set up and played with us, he did not know the songs. Did'nt seem to matter. He played everything like he was making a record. The perfect splash here, the awesome crash there. It was like watching a zen master dropped in a barrel full of live eels. The guy is just scary good. I was watching him switch from sticks to mallets for the radical cymbal role, almost at the speed of light. I kept on hearing these funny sound effects, whistles, gongs, what-not..I even thought I was hearing Indonesian gamelans at one point. I actually want to have his babies. Little squids, I guess.
