I do recall though that when visiting Hawaii in the mid-1970's (I heard all this stuff on Oahu) there was a problem people had with the sounds of people "walking on the rooftops" of houses. This was actually attributed to Menehunes, and my mental image of them was somewhat creepy because of these stories. (It was never possible to find a person making the sounds, so I guess a Menehune was as good a culprit as any?) Family members who had experienced these sounds had been creeped out by them, and supposedly the sounds were unmistakable and strange. It's a weird feeling discussing these things, a chicken skin kind feeling.
