Thanks Johnny...what've you been up to lately? Hanging for my PNG/Maori fix! Never mind...just seen you've got an update!
GMAN, the back plate is argillite, a real nice fine grained sedimentary stone from the beach. It doesn't often come in the cool shapes the other pebbles do, but is great for slabbing and jewellery components for etching and relief stuff, as it's a little softer than the greywacke I carve the tikis from. It also has really nice patterns:
