I don't want to discourage booking in advance, but for those who don't know if they can go yet: Summertime in Florida is the off-season so people shouldn't have too much trouble getting a room at the last minute. Nice rooms in attractive 1950s motels in Fort Lauderdale can be had for a song (some as low as $30/day or $250/week). Most are within walking distance of the beach. It's much more expensive at the beachfront lodgings. $79 per night is a good deal for such a room so book early if you want to be "on the beach". Or just bring your army parka and sleep under the pier. Just don't try skinny dipping at Daytona Beach at night!

The following web site has quite a few good motels. We stayed at the Winterset Motel last time and enjoyed it.
