Aaron, I'm NEVER Sure about mixing finishes. I know you can't mix acrylic with oil based. The only thing you can do is try it on a scrap piece of wood and then you will know and you can post it here so we'll all know where to look for it when we forget next time.
Those Lono headdresses are carved SO Many different ways that any of them would be deemed authentic. It is not just the style but the overall look and feel that makes it what it is. Go for any style that is comfortable for you.
Your carving has advanced so much, there is not really a lot I would need to tell you how to do, so hurry up, what are you waiting for already, are you done yet?
