This is our backyard retreat and home bar.
I spent the first 14 years of my life in Minneapolis
and the Waikiki Room was my favorite restaurant!
I would hound my parents to take me there.
Going out to dinner back then was a very rare occasion and a big event.
On my birthday we would go as a whole family, uncle, aunt, grandparents, etc...
I would always get the pressed duck, yum and a drink with an umbrella.
Fun memories and the inspiration for name: The "Waikiki Womb"

This is the small VIP bar The "'Ona'Alu'Alu" within the "Womb"

Its build out can be seen here:

Really, really cool!

Great artwork on the deck.

Love those album frames, were those homemade?

Great photos Murph!
We have had the pleasure of frequenting this oasis in
the Glendale foothills and must say it transports you to
tiki heaven!

What a gorgeous slice of paradise you've created!

T

I like a LOT of your decor touches! Thortiki

Wow...that is just awesome. Particularly like how you have painted the cement...very clever!!!!

Wow! I've seen a few shots of this bar, but many of these are new to me... Loads of details throughout. Like many have said- "it's never really finished"; looks like once you've tikified one area, it's on to the next! I especially like the little private booth, but everything is cool.

That is gorgeous. I love the moody night time pictures and the giant cocktail umbrellas.

What a place! I've seen a few pics before, but all the extra detail work is rad! Great job man!

There is just so much to love about your place. Way too much to list :)
Great, great, great job.
When did you start putting it all together?

I have had the pleasure to have been invited to Murphs place and I gotta say
it's " incredible".The cool thing is this a converted guest house located on a
lower level of the house.

Thanks for all the compliments.
Here are a few more detail pics.

Outstanding! Check your local zoning ordinances. You could probably turn that into a commercial enterprise. Its that good.

FANTASTIC !! I hope some day to visit. But what's up with that Zebra head ??

Zebras are not indigenous to Hawaii, but there is one at the Honolulu Zoo.

There, I solved that puzzle for you. :)

About as polynesian-pop as you can get...only thing is...it keeps gettin' BETTER!!

Bitchin by day and spectacular by night - The Waikiki Womb

Post on Murph!

Fantastic! Looks really amazing. I love all the details.

G

Holy smokes! Not sure if I'm more jealous about how good the place turned out or how incredibly fast you work. The best tiki bars pay a lot of attention to the smallest of details and you've really knocked that one out of the ballpark. Well done.

I just saw glances of the house, is it as cool as I think? Is there a turret? Very cool place.

Great place Murph!!!
I'm on my way over...
Aloha,
:tiki:

Murph...
I'm stealing your Chinese umbrella idea....I have like 5 of those and could never figure out what to do with them.

Had an itch to make something last night so I made a cover for the ceiling fan light.
Gives off a cool glow.

Wowwee. What can one say other than congrats. Obviously years of collecting and hard work to amass such a collection, not to mention the financial ability to build something that extraordinary. Hear that? shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwsshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Thats me, being blown away!

J

The pic showing the pool reminds me of where Jack Horner resided in Boogie Nights.

Hey Murph...It would be great to see some step by steps of what you do. You have great ingenuity when it comes to making tiki stuff.

Hey Murph, You forgot to post a photo of Moai twinkie! :)

Photos do not do the Waikiki Womb justice. You've got to experience it first hand to really appreciate it. Plus, Murph is a great guy and he and his wife are gracious hosts. Great job Murph.

I added another lamp.
This one I made out of an empty Kraken Rum bottle.

Today was spring cleaning day at the Womb.
I started cleaning the waterfall but I kept getting buzzed by one angry little hummingbird.
It took me a few minutes but I found out why.
Right above me was this little one's nest.
I think I'll clean the waterfall after the egg has hatched.

Murph -

Thanks for posting the finished Kraken Rum bottle lamp - its beautiful!!

G

Saw your bar for the first time on the Home tiki tour. It was a major inspiration for me to take my Tiki bar to the next level. Its stunning the amount of detail you have put into it.

I'm so steeling your painted concrete idea! That looks fantastic. Love what you've done with the place. Being in Northern California, I'm so jealous of your climate. You've done great work, looks like a fab place to hang out (and I noticed your dogs love it too) :)

M

The womb is blooming.

That tiki bar is 'sick'. In a good way. I better get to work.

WOW! What a gorgeous tropical paradise!

Absolutely amazing and beautiful! What a great way to start a Sunday morning. Thanks for sharing all those floral pics.

T

I MISS THE "WOMB"!!

Great to see all the bloom action. Thanks Murph for posting. G

F

Top shelf all the way, Murph. Fantastic work! The pleasure really is in the details, and the lighting looks great! I love the VIP room. nothing better than a private getaway, when you're already at a private party!
i was gonna surf TC tonight, but one home bar tour in and i'm inspired to head out to the workshop right now.

Sweet Jesus!! My heads spinnin'! Very nice spread you've built for yourself....and I'm jealous as hell.

Incredible flora! Fantastic place.

D

Hey Murph! I just found at you have a friend working at the same company as me (Robert). He re-directed me back to this thread and MAN!!! - very cool, very cool . . . Nice job with everything!!

Wow...you are sure the talent with tropical foliage. It is really breath taking with the gorgeous colors and unique flowers. AWESOME!!!

Here's some pix of The Waikiki Womb from 7/10/2010...

Wait, this is real? Like, not a PhotoShop paradise? This is quite possibly one of the most amazing places on the planet.

This is amazing. I'm so jealous!

This is such an awesome setup. I'd never want to leave my house!
