Make your own stamps

They are now offering to let you put your own images on postage stamps. This is pretty cool. Would make a great thing to add to your business promotional mail or whatever. Wedding announcements. It could be cool. A bit pricey. 10 sheets gets it doen to about 80 cents a stamp, but that's including the 37 cents postage, so it's 43 cents for the picture...

My face on a stamp.... Hmm... that would be scary! It might, however, be cool if you could just make a logo or something. Maybe a tiki idol stamp.

maybe they'll introduce a group image price plan. TC'ers could get together and have TikiBob stamps (or whatever image would be agreed upon after 7 months of arguments)

I can see an entirely new breed of collectors of these stamps. Imagine seeking out the incredibly rare (only 100 made) Aunt Gertrude stamp. Or the ever popular Fred Johnson of Tulsa, OK retirement party stamp.

There was a news item a few weeks ago about a public beta test of a similar system that got shut down because people had sneaked pics of Ted Bundy and some porn onto the stamps. Wonder how they are gonna prevent that from happening again.

The folks over at thesmokinggun.com submitted some potentially objectionable pictures to see what the censors would allow:

They have a team of screeners with lots of training in objectional people they say. No black and white images are accepted to rule out the old dead bad guys they say.

That is a rather good idea. If a bunch of us agreed on an image we could get enough to bring the price down.

I thought of getting about 10 books to use as a mailer for postcards, but they don't offer postcard stamps. Last year we sent out about 200 postcards for Hukilau. How does it compare to the old City of Refuge air mail stamp though price wise?

We all need stamps, but I can't send one of these to the utility board... It will make a nice tax write off though when the time comes.

Fun... but at that price I think I'd opt for custom postcards and use regular stamps. Maybe if they lower it to free it might work.
:)

Did anyone go ahead with Tiki stamps on Zazzle or Stamps.com or Endicia? I'd love to see the results and might be interested in purchasing some.
